Calvary Chapels began in the late 1960’s as a small non-denominational church of 25 members pastored by Chuck Smith (see “The Philosophy of Ministry of Calvary Chapel”). Through that ministry Pastor John Higgins with his wife, Shauna, and family moved to Phoenix and established Arizona's first Calvary Chapel in South Phoenix, with its first service held on May 11, 1978. From this beginning, Pastor John's desire to serve God was instrumental in starting Calvary Chapels not only in the Phoenix area but throughout Arizona. Pastor Charley his wife, Denise and family joined into what God was doing at Calvary Chapel Tri-City in the early 1980s growing and serving in that ministry. They were sent out by that ministry to the East Valley in 1987 and held its first service Sunday Nov.1st at the Super 8 Motel on Power & Main St. in Mesa AZ.   Wow!

More to come!
